Baby Gas Relief

Techniques for helping babies with gas and digestive discomfort.

Baby Gas Relief

Gas is one of the most common sources of discomfort for babies. These techniques help move trapped gas through the digestive system.

Techniques

Bicycle Legs

Gently move baby's legs in a cycling motion while they lie on their back. This compresses and releases the abdomen rhythmically.

Tummy Time

Gentle pressure on the belly during supervised tummy time helps gas move.

The Hold

Hold baby face-down along your forearm with gentle pressure on the belly. Support their head. The warmth and pressure help.

Burping Positions

  • Over the shoulder — classic, works well
  • Sitting up — support chin, pat and rub back
  • Face down on lap — gravity assists

Belly Massage

Gentle clockwise circles on the belly following the path of the intestines.

Prevention

  • Pace bottle feeding — too fast introduces air
  • Check latch when breastfeeding
  • Burp mid-feed not just at the end
  • Upright position for 15-20 min after feeding
